THE MOON IS A HARSH MISTRESS
CLIENT: Personal Project.
I enjoy experimenting with alternative media, and the contrast of hand stitching with a stark lunar
motif was something I've been wanting to try for a long time. It explores the contrast between
hand-made folk art and isolation; cloth and steel, home and the void. It took seven months and
hundreds of hours, and was completed on the 45th anniversary of the first moon landing.
It depicts the Moon's south pole, with De Gerlache and Shackleton craters figuring prominently.
The title is from a favorite science fiction novel by Robert A. Heinlein.
